SECU MD Foundation Golf Classic (2019) Raises Over $75,000 For Student Scholarship Program

June 1, 2019

Linthicum Heights, Md. (June 6, 2019) – The SECU MD Foundation, which makes a difference in the lives of students and young adults by providing them with a strong financial start, has raised over $75,000 to support student scholarships through its Fourth Annual SECU MD Foundation Golf Classic.

All of the funds raised at the golf tournament support SECU MD Foundation scholarship programs, including its State Employee scholarship, University System of Maryland scholarship, and Donald Tynes Sr. scholarship. These programs help meet the continuous learning and educational needs of students in the community. The SECU MD Foundation will donate over $100,000 in scholarship funds this year. To date, SECU has provided over 200 students with scholarships totaling more than $500,000.

In addition to its scholarship program, the SECU MD Foundation supports a number of efforts to increase financial wellness and educate youth in the community. Through Finance Fairs, the Foundation provides high school and college students with a first-hand, interactive experience in managing money in a ‘real world’ setting to help them make smart, informed financial decisions in their daily lives.

“SECU has a longstanding tradition of providing financial education to young adults in our community and that work has been continued by the SECU MD Foundation,” said Dave Sweiderk, President and CEO of SECU. “We are extremely grateful to our volunteers and partners for their support in giving students a stronger financial start. These scholarships help numerous students pursue continued education at the college of their dreams with less debt and financial stress.”

The tournament, which was held May 20 at Hobbit’s Glen Golf Course, had over 90 participants for a day of golf, raffles, corn hole and networking.
