BALTIMORE (May 31, 2023) – SECU, Maryland’s largest state-chartered credit union, is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Gina McKnight-Smith, as the newest board member of its Board of Directors.
With a distinguished background in healthcare and a deep commitment to community service, Dr. McKnight-Smith’s appointment underscores SECU’s dedication to serving its members and enhancing their financial well-being.
Dr. McKnight-Smith’s professional journey encompasses extensive experience in various sectors, including community and hospital outpatient pharmacy, long-term care consulting, regulatory roles with the FDA, managed care within pharmacy benefit management (PBM) companies and the biopharmaceutical industry. Her broad business acumen and strategic mindset will be instrumental in shaping SECU’s strategies and initiatives to meet the evolving needs of its members.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. McKnight-Smith’s civic engagement reflects her unwavering dedication to making a positive impact. As a Commissioner on the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights, she actively advocates for equality and fairness within the community. Additionally, her role as a mentor at the University of Maryland Baltimore demonstrates her commitment to nurturing future leaders and empowering individuals to achieve their goals.

Dr. McKnight-Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts (UMBC-1993), a Doctor of Pharmacy (UMB School of Pharmacy-1997), an MBA (UB-2000), and a Master of Science in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics (UMB School of Pharmacy- 2023). With various professional certifications and affiliations within pharmacy and healthcare organizations, she has practiced pharmacy across several organizational platforms. Dr. McKnight-Smith’s passion to serve does not stop with her professional achievements, she exercises her civic engagement as a Commissioner on the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights and a graduate of Leadership Baltimore County’s Class of 2021. She is also a member with 32 years of service in Alpha Kappa Sorority, Incorporated, and currently serves as the President of the Patapsco River (MD) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.
