SECU WINS THREE OUTSTANDING MARKETING AWARDS
Kindness Campaign and SECU Total™ Checking were recognized for their creativity, implementation and results

BALTIMORE (June 21, 2023) – SECU, Maryland’s largest state-chartered credit union, is pleased to announce it has won three awards for outstanding marketing campaigns from The American Marketing Association Baltimore Chapter (AMA Baltimore) and the MD|DC Credit Union Association (MD|DC CUA).

The SECU Total™ Checking campaign was awarded Digital Marketing Campaign of the Year for AMA Baltimore’s 2023 MX Awards as well as Best Integrated Marketing Campaign for MD|DC CUA’s 2023 Marketing Trailblazer Awards. SECU’s Kindness Campaign was awarded the Wildcard honor given to the project that stands out from among the other campaign categories but deserves recognition, also a MD|DC CUA 2023 Trailblazer Award.

“We are thrilled that our marketing initiatives are being recognized by these prestigious industry organizations,” said Amy Basta, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Community at SECU. “These campaigns impact so many Marylanders lives, invariably strengthening SECU MD Foundation’s mission to support education, health and wellness and community development initiatives.”

The SECU Total™ Checking Offer was an initiative conceived to show Marylanders to appeal of banking with SECU and it was the largest-ever cash bonus to open a checking account. The campaign’s effective use of engaging graphics, videography and social media marketing resulted in 5,517 new checking accounts, 8,481 new savings accounts and 3,000 new members.

Born in 2020, during the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic, SECU’s Kindness Campaign gave free kindness kits to SECU’s more than 375 employees, enabling them to spread more than 10,000 acts of kindness in Maryland and beyond. In October 2020, employees performed grander acts of kindness as part of SECU’s inaugural Day of Kindness. The program has grown exponentially in a few short years, with employees completing more than 280,000 acts of kindness in 2022, including 100,000 acts alone—in partnership with 15 non-profit organizations—on its 2022 Day of Kindness.

“It is integral to SECU’s mission to provide resources and access to financial wellness for our members and we continue to expand the ways we can creatively capture the attention of non-members to spark their interest in what we offer,” said Basta. “We are grateful that our forward-thinking efforts in supporting the community have been recognized by both organizations.”
