SECU retail leader recognized among Maryland’s most accomplished women age 40 and younger

BALTIMORE (June 26, 2026) – SECU, Maryland’s largest state-chartered credit union, is proud to announce that Southeast Regional Market Manager Rose Whitney has been named a 2026 Leading Woman by The Maryland Daily Record.

Launched in 2010, The Daily Record’s Leading Women Award recognizes women aged 40 or younger for the accomplishments they have made so far in their careers. Honorees are selected for their professional experience, community involvement, and commitment to inspiring change. Whitney was recognized for her people-first approach to leadership, her dedication to mentorship and growth, and her ongoing service to her team, SECU members, and the broader community.

“Rose Whitney embodies what we believe at SECU: when you invest in people, everyone rises,” said Toby Smith, SECU EVP and chief relationship officer. “From her early days as a teller, to her leadership today, she has poured that same belief into developing the people around her. We’re thrilled to see her named a Leading Woman and continue to grow – personally, professionally, and in the community.”

Whitney has paired her people-first leadership with a drive to modernize how SECU serves its members. Ahead of the credit union’s revamped business banking launch in fall 2025, she led SECU’s first-ever series of business roundtables, convening more than 70 business owners, nonprofit leaders, and executives across five financial centers. The feedback she gathered helped build products that better serve members and the business banking community as a whole. This initiative grew directly out of her belief in creating more authentic relationships.

Whitney has risen in her career at SECU, starting on the front line of retail banking in 2012. As regional market manager, Whitney oversees a team of 50, including five branch managers, across SECU’s Southeast market. A dedicated mentor, she has helped drive 33 internal promotions within her retail banking team over the past two years, including three assistant managers she coached into branch manager roles. Her leadership has been recognized internally with SECU’s Stellar Leadership Award in 2021, 2022, and 2024.

Beyond her work at SECU, Whitney serves as a board member, treasurer, and events committee chair for The Complete Player Charity, a youth empowerment nonprofit. She is also an Ambassador Committee member with the Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce.

Whitney will be celebrated alongside other honorees at The Daily Record’s Leading Women Awards celebration later this year.
