Towson University, SECU renew naming rights partnership with new, seven-year agreement
TOWSON, MD (May 8, 2025) – Today, Towson University announced a seven-year partnership with SECU that gives exclusive naming rights to the Tigers’ arena. SECU was the arena naming partner when the facility opened in 2013 through September 2023. Founded in Baltimore in 1951, SECU is a full-service financial institution serving over 260,000 members and managing $5.5 billion in assets, including several members in the TU community. The name change is effective immediately.
“We are so excited to call this front porch to the university and vibrant hub for campus life SECU Arena,” said Mark Ginsberg, president of Towson University. “From thrilling athletic competitions to annual recognitions of our students’ success, this arena brings people together and showcases the very best of what our university has to offer. We are deeply grateful to SECU for their continued partnership and investment in experiences that enrich our students and the entire region.”
The 5,200-seat multi-purpose SECU Arena is home to four Towson Tiger athletics teams – men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics. During the first 12 seasons of the arena, the teams have a combined home record of 423-178, a .704 winning percentage. The arena is also home to TU’s biannual fall and winter commencement ceremonies, where thousands of students celebrate their accomplishments with family, friends, and loved ones.
“At SECU, we believe in building strong communities, and this partnership with Towson University is a reflection of our commitment to offering tools for all Marylanders to achieve financial wellness,” said Dave Sweiderk, president and CEO of SECU. “SECU Arena represents a shared vision of excellence and opportunity for students, athletes, and the broader Baltimore region. We’re honored to once again be part of the energy and purpose that this arena embodies.”
The 117,000-square-foot venue has 340 club seats, four private suites, and nearly 100 courtside seats. Upon opening, the arena was awarded LEED Gold certification for energy use, lighting, water and material use, and other sustainable features. In addition to hosting varsity athletic events and commencement ceremonies, the venue is the current home of the Baltimore Blast of the Major Arena Soccer League and hosts more than 100 events annually, including a fan-favorite TigerFest concert for students in the spring. In the early summer, the arena serves as home to Baltimore County public high school graduations as well.
“The SECU Arena is a true centerpiece for the Towson University campus and greater Baltimore community. We are thrilled to continue the partnership, keeping the SECU name on this facility in this era where our department has been able to heighten its community integrations and this is another exciting step on the journey,” said Steve Eigenbrot, athletics director at TU. “SECU supports so many in our community and this relationship not only highlights that, but it will also magnify the great work being done here by our student-athletes through the additional layers in our partnership beyond naming the arena.”
Fans and eventgoers will continue to benefit from a center hung video display and scoreboard, LED ad ribbon board, concession stands with a variety of food and drink, two ATMs, and free wi-fi.
