SECU President & CEO David Sweiderk Recognized on Maryland Daily Record’s 2025 Power 100 List

BALTIMORE (August 6, 2025) SECU, Maryland’s largest credit union, is proud to announce that its President and CEO, David Sweiderk, has once again been recognized on the Maryland Daily Record’s Power 100 List for 2025. This marks Sweiderk’s fifth consecutive selection to the Power 100 List, having previously been honored in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. The Power 100 List spotlights Maryland’s most influential leaders who are actively shaping the state’s business, civic, and economic landscape through their exceptional leadership and community engagement. Honorees are selected annually by the Daily Record’s editorial leadership team, drawing on valuable input from stakeholders and readers across the state.

Under Sweiderk’s leadership, SECU has leveraged cutting-edge technology to deliver integrated services, creating optimal member experiences at an exceptional value, cementing the credit union’s ethos as a member-first organization, while managing over $5B in assets.

“It’s an honor to be recognized alongside so many outstanding leaders making a difference across Maryland,” said Sweiderk. “This recognition is truly a reflection of the incredible team at SECU and our shared commitment to empowering our members, investing in our communities, and driving positive, lasting impact throughout the state. We believe that financial well-being is a cornerstone of a stronger, healthier, more connected Maryland, and I’m proud of the role SECU continues to play in helping individuals, families, and local businesses thrive.”

Sweiderk has championed innovative partnerships in the fintech, member service and experience, and higher education sectors. In the last year alone, SECU has unveiled cutting-edge partnerships with the likes of new business partners, including the Restaurant Association of Maryland, an official NIL [name, image, likeness] sponsorship of University of Maryland Athletics, and more. SECU also unveiled new ways to engage with Marylanders at every age and every stage, pursuing access to financial education resources through the Greenlight app and debit card, a formal partnership with the Maryland Council on Economic Education (MCEE), and more.

Most recently, he oversaw the renewal of SECU’s partnership with Towson University, reinvigorating a naming rights agreement for SECU Arena to include other on-campus engagement and educational opportunities, so that the credit union may continue to serve Towson athletics and the broader student population.

Additionally, Sweiderk has significantly amplified SECU’s commitment to community service and financial empowerment across Maryland. Most notably, their recent annual Kindness Campaign inspired nearly 600,000 acts of kindness through the collective efforts of SECU employees, leaders, and members. This expansive campaign underscored the credit union’s “people-first” ethos by way of collecting donations for food banks and university pantries, raising money for SECU MD Foundation scholarships, and widespread local volunteering, extending SECU’s positive impact in Maryland’s communities.

In recent years, David has been honored by his peers and recognized by local publications with several awards, including the Maryland Daily Record’s Most Admired CEO in 2020, Influential Marylander in 2022 and 2023, and Power 100 List for four consecutive years in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. David was also named a Power 10 CEO by the Baltimore Business Journal in 2022. Among other personal honors, SECU was also named Top Workplace of 2024 by The Baltimore Sun, and included on Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Regional Banks and Credit Unions and Forbes’ Best-in-State Credit Unions for 2022 and 2024.
