The SECU MD Foundation supports several local scholarships

 

The SECU MD Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and support the continuous learning and educational needs of members in the communities served by SECU, Maryland’s largest credit union. One of the primary ways we do that is through the SECU MD Foundation Scholarship Program, which has awarded more than $465,000 to over 180 individuals. The following scholarships are offered: 

Donald Tynes Sr. Scholarship

To recognize the numerous contributions made by Donald Tynes Sr., longtime member of the SECU Board of Directors, the SECU MD Foundation offers the Donald Tynes Sr. Scholarship, which benefits sophomores, juniors, and seniors enrolled in Morgan State University’s Graves School of Business. Five scholarships for $2,000 each will be awarded every year to eligible Morgan State University students. Students must be a member of SECU to be eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must complete an essay or a video to apply.

Applications for the 2018 Donald Tynes Sr. Scholarship will be accepted from February 1 – April 6, 2018.

University System of Maryland Scholarship

The SECU MD Foundation offers scholarships for students attending or accepted into a four-year institution within the University System of Maryland. Scholarships range from $2,000 - $5,000 each. Students must be a member of SECU to be eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must complete an essay or a video to apply. 

Applications for the 2018 University System of Maryland Scholarship will be accepted from February 1 – April 6, 2018.

State Employee Scholarship

Over the past eleven years, SECU has awarded scholarships to current or retired Maryland state employees and their family members who attend a 2- or 4 - year college or trade school. Scholarships range from $2,000 - $5,000 each. Applicant or an immediate family member must be a SECU member AND a current or retired Maryland state employee. Applicants must complete an essay or a video to apply.

Applications for the 2018 State Employee Scholarship will be accepted from February 1 – April 6, 2018.

The SECU MD Foundation will send scholarship funds directly to the college, university, trade or technical school where the student is enrolled on their behalf. Essays and videos will be judged by a pre-selected committee. Winners will be notified in writing. Winners are responsible for any tax obligations. Current SECU employees and their family members are not eligible for any of the SECU MD Foundation scholarships.
