About The SECU MD Foundation

Learn about the SECU MD Foundation.

The Credit Union movement was built on the simple premise of people helping people. The SECU MD Foundation relies on support from people like you who believe in the power of education.

Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of students and young adults by giving them a strong financial start. Your tax deductible donation supports financial wellness programs and the Maryland Scholarship Program, which has awarded over $500,000 in scholarship money to help people achieve their higher education dreams.

"The SECU MD Foundation scholarship gave me the encouragement I needed to say, “I can do this!” Because of SECU’s gift, I now have enough money to pay for my entire first year and a half of college. SECU’s investment in me has allowed me to delay getting loans, which truly enhances my financial wellbeing. Thank you SECU for not only investing in me to prevent me going into student loan debt this fall, but for investing in my future and inspiring me to stay smart about how I fund my education."

"At times I feel guilty for re-entering college to advance my education because of the cost associated with obtaining a degree. I always think that the money I spend on pursuing my degree could go towards my children’s educational future. Winning the University System of Maryland Scholarship from the SECU Foundation has made it possible for me to pursue my education without taking away from my financial goal of preparing for my children’s educational future."

"Upon graduation in December, I will be the first in my family to receive a college degree. This would not be possible without having the financial means to pay for my last semester, and for this I am forever thankful. The scholarship I received and the degree that it will help pay for does not just impact me, but my entire family.. For me, it is not “I won this scholarship” or “I am graduating.” It is “We won this scholarship, and we will be graduating.”My family is able to benefit from the fruits of my labor, which is more than I could ever ask for."

"As with many families entering college, finances are a major concern. I’ve been focused since middle school on getting the grades that warrant merit-based scholarships so I could afford to go to college. My father is a seventy-two year old man who is still working hard to make things happen for our family. My mother has been working full-time, balancing home management and her profession for many years. My younger brother, a high school junior, will soon be applying to colleges as well. Since I am responsible for helping to pay for my college education, I have been working hard to save money. These scholarships will help me achieve my dreams of earning a college degree."
