2016 State Employee Scholarship

SECU is pleased to announce that we will once again be offering scholarships to Maryland state employees and their family members who will attend college, graduate school, or trade school in the fall of 2016. Scholarship amounts will vary and will be based on a graded essay or video submission. Eligibility will be verified. You can apply now through April 8, 2016. Winners will be announced in May 2016.

Essays and video submissions should address the following topic:

Whether you are currently in college or graduating high school and making the transition to a university in the Fall, it’s more critical than ever that you start taking more responsibility for your financial future. It’s also important for you to understand the things that will most impact you as you begin to take control of your own finances and transition to life after school over the next few years. In an essay of 750 words or less or a video of two minutes or less, tell us what is the most important financial topic(s) that you believe would help you on your financial road to success.

Examples of topics could be:

  • Financial products and services built specifically for college students or recent graduates (be specific and original)
  • Better financial education and resources
  • Resources to establish and build good credit
  • A healthy job market for new graduates
  • Ensuring a healthy job market for new graduates
  • Support for student loans
  • Any other financial topics you want to include

Be creative!  Think outside the box! Have fun with it!  And let us know what's important to your financial success!

The 2016 scholarship recipients will be honored at a ceremony on June 14 at the SECU Arena at Towson University.



2016 Marge Kenney Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Margaret (Marge) Kenney, a lifelong ambassador for Seton Keough High School, SECU is honored to announce the inaugural year for the Marge Kenney Memorial Scholarship for graduating seniors at Seton Keough who will attend college, graduate school, or trade school in the fall of 2016. SECU will award five $1,000 scholarships for essay or video submissions on the topic below. Eligibility will be verified. You may apply now through April 8, 2016.

Essays and video submissions should address the following topic:

In a 500-750 word essay, or in a 1-2 minute video, tell us about your community involvement. What was your experience of how you helped your community or those in need?
