March 2018

Rod Staatz, President and CEO of SECU, has been selected by the editors of The Daily Record to receive that publication’s 2018 Influential Marylander Award.

Under Staatz’s leadership, SECU has grown to more than a quarter of a million members, while its assets have risen to more than $3.3 billion. Staatz is also responsible for introducing a number of innovative services for SECU members, including remote video tellers, mobile and online banking, and a comprehensive range of sophisticated financial products and services.

A former Chairman of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), the premier national trade association serving credit unions, Staatz has been a staunch supporter of financial literacy for young adults in Maryland. He has spearheaded SECU’s sponsorship and involvement in three Millionaire’s Clubs, annual scholarship programs for Maryland State Employees, the University System of Maryland, and Morgan State University, ongoing Financial Reality Fairs, and a partnership with the Maryland Coalition of Financial Literacy.

Staatz is one of 57 Influential Marylanders selected by The Daily Record’s editors for their significant contributions to their respective fields and for their leadership in Maryland in the areas of civic leadership, communications, education, finance, freestyle, general business, health care, law, philanthropy, real estate, and technology.

“The 2018 Influential Marylanders work tirelessly to excel in their careers, but they work just as hard to spark innovation and progress, meeting a variety of challenges in Maryland and beyond," says Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, Publisher of The Daily Record. "They have qualities we aspire to emulate and accomplishments we admire. They are examples for us all. The Daily Record is honored to recognize them."

The Daily Record launched Influential Marylanders in 2007 to recognize those who are leaving a mark on the community throughout the state.

The 2018 Influential Marylanders Awards will be presented March 22 at a reception and stationed dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. at The Grand Lodge, 304 International Circle in Cockeysville. Winners will be profiled in a special magazine that will be inserted into the March 23 issue of The Daily Record.
